Online Counselling via Zoom: What to Expect From Your First Session
By Anne Heaton-Armstrong · 15 August 2026 · 4 min read
Online counselling has become a natural choice for many people. It removes travel time, fits more easily around work and family life, and lets you speak to a therapist from somewhere you already feel comfortable. I hold sessions online most weekdays and am very flexible with dates and times.
Starting with a free 20-minute consultation
Before committing to therapy, I offer a free initial consultation over Zoom, Teams or the phone. It's a relaxed chance to tell me a little about what brings you, ask any questions and get a feel for whether we are a good fit.
How to prepare
Find a private, quiet space where you won't be overheard or interrupted. Headphones can help you feel more at ease. Check your internet connection beforehand and keep a glass of water nearby. There is no need to plan what to say — we will start wherever feels right for you.
What a full session looks like
Regular sessions last 50 minutes and take place Monday to Friday, online via Zoom. Together we explore what's on your mind at your own pace, with the aim of building understanding and practical ways forward.
