Coping With Grief and Loss: How Counselling Can Support You

By Anne Heaton-Armstrong · 5 May 2026 · 4 min read

Grief is one of the most human experiences there is, and yet it can feel deeply isolating. Whether you have lost a loved one, a relationship, a job or a sense of who you were, the feelings that follow can be complex and unpredictable.

There is no right way to grieve

Sadness, anger, guilt, numbness and even relief are all common reactions to loss. Grief doesn't follow a neat timeline, and it can resurface unexpectedly around anniversaries, milestones or everyday reminders.

When grief feels stuck

Sometimes grief becomes tangled with trauma, anxiety or depression, making it hard to move forward. If you find yourself unable to function day to day, or feel alone with your loss, speaking to a counsellor can help.

A space to be heard

Counselling offers time and space to talk about the person or thing you have lost, make sense of your feelings and gradually find a way to carry your loss alongside a meaningful life. Sessions are available in English or Spanish, online via Zoom.
